When to Schedule Your Newborn Photos | Wisconsin Photographer

Wausau Wisconsin Photography serving Madison, Milwaukee, Minocqua and Beyond!

I love newborn photos. I have a favorite photo of my oldest son just days after bringing him home. His newborn wrinkles on full display. Gah, I really love those newborn wrinkles! I just couldn’t believe how fast they disappear and are replaced by full round cheeks and rolls upon rolls.

There is such a small window when they really look like that fresh, wrinkly, tiny person we held in the hospital. This is my favorite time to capture newborn photos, to really document just how small they were. To capture those details like the wrinkles, body hair, and newborn belly button. I find scheduling newborn photos within the first 14 days after their birth is best.

We all know that even with our best laid plans, babies will still come when they are ready to come, so you may ask yourself ‘how do I know what day I should schedule our newborn photos?’ That’s a great question!

When I am working with an expectant mom I always say let’s schedule your photos based on your due date. The great news is I’ve photographed not only newborns but also births and fresh 48s. These types of photos can be even more unpredictable because the window is even smaller for when we can capture those photos. So when I am scheduling births, fresh 48s, and even newborn photos I know just how to plan my schedule and your session to make sure we have the ability to move your session if baby decides to make an early or late appearance that makes our original date fall outside of that 14 days.

There is no doubt the moments and memories we capture are one you will treasure forever. The days and weeks after the birth of your new little one can be a blur. There may be sleepless nights, delirious happiness, endless guests, new routines, and so much more. The beauty of newborn photos is they not only capture your newborn but they also embrace this season of your life just as it is right now.
