Why in-home newborn photos?

Its no secret I love in-home sessions for everything. I love to photograph families, couples, boudoir - everything, in-home. It’s so important to me that the images I give my clients are not just pretty pictures. I want your images to be have a life of their own. When you look at your images from our session I want you to feel exactly what life was like at that moment. I want you to feel the same joy, and love, and connection that surrounded you. What better place to do that in your own home? The place where so many of your wonderful memories have happened already.

I also love showing my clients how beautiful everyday life is. When I talk about in-home sessions with clients I get a lot of people who are nervous that their house isn’t enough, “it’s not Pinterest worthy”. I get people nervous about the chaos. But I assure them, and I can assure you, it’s perfect! This is the place where you eat dinner together and talk about your day. This is the place you laugh and love together. This is the place your children feel most safe. This is the place where you are starting your life together. It’s home. I love showing my clients the everyday beauty that surrounds them. I love showing them there is beauty and love in the chaos. Sometimes with business of all of our to-do’s and switching into autopilot to get it all done, it’s easy to miss the beauty of the everyday.

There is an extra reason I love in-home sessions for newborns. This is the home your brought them home to. That means something. To photograph them in a place so full of love that’s been anticipating their arrival is special. Those first two weeks of bringing baby home, whether it’s your first or your fourth, it’s a blur. It’s kind of like your wedding day, you remember an overall feeling and maybe a moment or two, but it’s a blur. Those first two weeks of a newborn are never the same. Soon their forehead wrinkles are gone and their cheeks have filled out before you even realize they are going. One day you undress them for a bath and realize there are wrist and knee rolls that were never there before. Suddenly they are that rolly polly squishy baby, that is so great too, but it happens before we can even soak in the tininess to remember all the little details.

In-home sessions are also something I love offering clients because I remember those first few days. I didn’t want to go anywhere. I didn’t want to pack everyone and everything we’d need to go somewhere for 2 hours. I come to my client’s home so it’s one less thing to worry about, one less place to go. I can get wonderful lifestyle images that tells the story of your home, but I can also get timeless, classic images your baby.

In the comfort of your own home we can capture life as it is, snuggle up on the master bed or couch, or even strip down and capture raw, intimate moments. These quiet moments of skin to skin are ones your heart will swell to look back on.
