When to Schedule Maternity Photos | Kelly Jacobi Photography

When you expecting there is a long list of things to get ready for baby. Getting the nursery ready, making sure you have diapers, sleepers, blankets. Maybe you’re scheduling birthing classes or pregnant yoga classes. One thing for sure you know you want to document this amazing time in your life with photos!

You may be wondering when the best time during your pregnancy is for maternity photos. There’s no exact week in your pregnancy that is best, but there is a range that I recommend. Typically in your 7-8 month, or 28-36 weeks along. Depending on what you are hoping to capture will determine what is best for you.

Usually by 28-32 weeks there is a nice round belly that is perfect for capturing and documenting this time in your life. This is also a great time because typically you aren’t too close to the end of your pregnancy where many women find themselves growing more tired and sore.

Some women like to capture the fullness of their growing belly. They want to tell the full story of how their body changed. In this case 33-36 is an option.

Whether this is your first baby or your fifth, one thing that is certain is every pregnancy is different. I have been pregnant three times and each time was completely unique, each time I felt completely different. Listen to your body and how you are feeling to help determine when you schools schedule your maternity photos.

In my time photographing maternity, fresh 48’s, and births one thing that is certain is that babies will come when they are ready. I always recommend scheduling maternity photos at least 3-4 weeks from your due date. Not only does this give you some breathing room to not worry if you will have maternity photos done before baby arrives, it’s also a great chance to have these photos for special things. Many of my parents-to-be love to use their maternity photos for their baby shower invitations, or decorating baby’s room.
